One called Aquae Sparsae in Roman times, is situated in the Puy-de-Dôme. Aigueperse takes place about fifteen kilometers from Riom, and thirty kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand.
Former capital of Montpensier County, the city was once a fortified city surrounded by swamps. This is the fourteenth century that the city experienced its biggest boom, especially when the daughter of the Duke of Berry Aigueperse attached it to the Bourbons.
Today Aigueperse is a city mainly dedicated to tourism with an amazing heritage. The ancient monuments present different eras that marked the old fortified city. Difficult to resist the typical architecture of the region and these old stones steeped in history.
Gastronomy is also the appointment of Aigueperse with specialties of the town, pralines and marzipan.
The monuments to visit are not lacking in Aigueperse which no fewer than six buildings listed or registered historical monument.
Former chapel of a now defunct castle, the Sainte-Chapelle of Aigueperse was listed building. Built in the fifteenth century, it is one of the seven holy chapels still in place in France. A funeral vocation for the Bourbons Dauphin of Auvergne, it was built for Louis I, Count of Montpensier. Built on the plan of the Sainte-Chapelle in Riom, it shall include a pentagonal choir. Inside, furniture is rich with a statue of Louis XII or a beautiful Madonna and Child.
Also classified, the Notre-Dame was built in the twelfth century. Rebuilt in the eighteenth century and restored in a Gothic style in the nineteenth century, it has beautiful murals from the thirteenth century. Inside, visitors can enjoy the Nativity of Benedetto Ghirlandaio or statue of St. James.
The former convent and now home to the community of communes, or the former Ursuline convent that houses city hall, are not without interest. The second in particular has a belfry and three Jaquemarts.
Listed historical monument, the Marillac hotel features a beautiful Renaissance style.
Listed building, the Joan of Arc room is in a house in the village and can appreciate a beautiful emblazoned ceiling of the fifteenth century.
Walking through Aigueperse, we also appreciate the oratory of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, as well as many buildings dating from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Aigueperse regularly organizes events of all kinds to enliven the streets of the city and its surroundings.
The Aigueperse market is held on Tuesday morning.
In May, the city offers a feast of the bike with several animations.
The city sets up a gourmet night market in August.
During the night of Aigueperse, it is possible to discover dramatized tours of the city in summer.
In October, the Autumn Walks festival extends throughout the country Riom of Limagnes, springs and volcanoes. Several thematic and guided walks are offered as well by specialized instructors.
