Beaumont Castle is located in the town of Agonges, in the department of Allier, 20 km northwest of Moulins.
Located northwest of the town, it was built in 1740 by Claude de Troussebois, lord of Champaigue, on the site of a medieval feudal fortress of which only a round tower now remains, to the southwest.
The neo-classical style building was raised on a terrace, the main building leaning on either side on the bases of old towers. On the garden side, in 1850, the facade was redesigned by the addition of foreparts surmounted by terraces.
In addition, in the courtyard, two symmetrical 18th century pavilions, one houses a chapel and the other a billiard room! The outbuildings are made up of a dovecote and single-storey buildings.
Finally, a hexagonal-shaped pavilion, nicknamed the "Chinese pavilion", dominates a terrace at the level of the alley leading to the castle.
This elegant residence which belonged for some time to a deputy from Allier in the 19th century and then to the Garidel family, originally from Nice, and which remained famous in the region for the introduction of the Charolais breed in Bourbonnais lands.
Well maintained, the still private property is listed in the Inventory. It is only open to the public very occasionally. Otherwise, it is possible to observe the estate from the road, during a walk in a bucolic setting typical of the Bourbonnais. Information on +33 4 70 43 93 71.
