Achenheim

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Bas-Rhin

Municipality of Bas-Rhin, in historic Alsace, Achenheim takes place about ten kilometers from Strasbourg and its cathedral. It is located near the Bruche canal, not far from Holtzheim, Ittenheim and Kolbsheim.

Populated since the Palaeolithic, the territory of Achenheim has been the subject of numerous archaeological campaigns in order to find these precious prehistoric remains. Property of the rural chapter of the Abbey of Honau from the 9th century, the Alsatian town developed in the Middle Ages under the influence of the monastery of Eschau. Burned by the people of Strasbourg in the second half of the 13th century during the war between the city and its bishop Walter de Geroldseck, it has regained all its charm.

Passing visitors can admire the beautiful houses with traditional Alsatian architecture.

Things to see and do

Of traditional Alsatian architecture, the church of Saint-Georges seduces in particular with its neo-classical portal. The interior, sober, reveals beautiful paintings.

While strolling through Achenheim, you can also admire the tile factory, the castle with its 19th century red brick facade or the old school, also from the 19th century, with its half-timbering.

Don't miss the farm at 8 rue des Tilleuls either. Erected in the first half of the 19th century, this building is not lacking in charm with its yellow half-timbered facade and green shutters.
