Municipality of Bas-Rhin, in historic Alsace, Achenheim takes place about ten kilometers from Strasbourg and its cathedral. It is located near the Bruche canal, not far from Holtzheim, Ittenheim and Kolbsheim.
Populated since the Palaeolithic, the territory of Achenheim has been the subject of numerous archaeological campaigns in order to find these precious prehistoric remains. Property of the rural chapter of the Abbey of Honau from the 9th century, the Alsatian town developed in the Middle Ages under the influence of the monastery of Eschau. Burned by the people of Strasbourg in the second half of the 13th century during the war between the city and its bishop Walter de Geroldseck, it has regained all its charm.
Passing visitors can admire the beautiful houses with traditional Alsatian architecture.
