Logis de Fornel

We visited La Rochefoucauld for our friends wedding, catching train from Paris to Angouleme, then train directly to La Rochefoucauld. Charming town, beautiful Chateau definately worth a visit (and you can dress up in medieval clothes!). The Logis de Fornel was such a find, charming host Martina very helpful when booking, and with information before our visit. We were greeted, given the history of the building, and tour to our room. What a find - massive bedroom on the ground floor, with it's own door opening onto the courtyard. The room was full of lovely french touches, beautiful furniture. Plenty of storage, and en suite was large. We also had use of the lounge, which could also be dining area/breakfast if required. Piano, books, large fireplace. We had our own private garden in the courtyard with parasol for breakfast (typically french as expected, fresh baguettes, butter, preserves, coffee/tea and fruit juice. Also 2 loungers for relaxing day. Rue Lioncourt is just one street from the centre of town, and a lovely food market at the end of the street on a Saturday morning. As we were at wedding, we only visited one restaurant in the town - Chez Stephs for amazing steak and wine. We also spent a day in Angouleme (direct train from La Rochefoucauld, very charming small french station). We cannot reccomend highly enough, and are looking for an excuse to visit again!!! We stayed at the Logis de Fornel with another couple for 4 nights August 2010. We found the accommodation excellent and good value for money too. We always managed to find a place to park outside the logis even in high tourist season and it was good being able to walk the very short distance to the main street and the restaurants without the need for one of us to drive. Madame Dumas and her family were very helpful and made us so welcome. We will certainly be booking another stay at the logis next time we visit La Rochefoucauld.
